Can someone associated with a campaign sign up voters? Or does it have to be non-partisan?
I’m not sure of the laws but WHY did the guy go into a sudden panic attack and split the scene? It was like he couldn’t wait to get out of there.
Grab his full clipboard and run.
You don’t register in parking lots ...
I believe in most states partisans can sign up their own.
It will depend on STATE campaign laws and/or any FEDERAL laws which govern such things.
I believe anyone can register people to vote .. but here in CA, you have to be specifically registered with the agency governing elections in your area. That should give you proper ID - and then, it’s up to the person who’s signing up, to find out who is doing the registration.
I would be careful of any group who is supporting one specific candidate .. because the chances are if you don’t register for their candidate .. they could just throw it away. I’m not saying they do .. but considering the stakes in this election, why wonder if you’re registered or not.
So, the rule is: Find out if you can register online - here in San Diego County - you cannot - you have to present yourself in person to the main post office - where you will be given a registration form to fill out. They used to let you fill out your form online and then bring it to the P.O. I don’t know if they let you do that anymore.
BUT .. be very careful about signing up with somebody on the street. You have no idea what they will do with your information .. and/or are they just there trying to get people’s information .. to sell to other people. Don’t let corrupt people steal your right to vote.
Aside from going to a P.O., you can go to any County Registrar’s office and register. Take the time and do it; our country needs to stay free.
And .. registering to vote IS NOT VOTING. After you have registered, you should be receiving information from the Registrar of Voters in your area. If you haven’t received anything within a couple of weeks - get on the phone and find out if you actually have been registered. Make sure you do this prior to the deadline for registering, otherwise, election day will come and you will not be able to vote.
The only exception will be those states who provide a provisional ballot, so you can vote and they can check you out before your vote is counted.
ANYWAY .. DON’T LET ANYBODY STEAL THE POWER OF YOUR VOTE.
When we do voter registration under the Republican Party umbrella we accept any and all forms. I believe that is the law everywhere, but I could be wrong.
