An Air Force reconnaissance plane recently measured a peak SFMR wind of 143 kt and then 138 kt during this mission's eye penetrations. Furthermore, the satellite presentation has improved considerably with a distinct eye surrounded by a ring of very deep convection. The raw objective T-numbers from UW-CIMSS have been above 7.0 since 2100 UTC. On this basis, the initial intensity has been increased to 140 kt, making Matthew a Category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. This is the first Category 5 hurricane in the Atlantic basin since Hurricane Felix in 2007.

Showing a 300-317 bearing doesn’t help without a beginning.
Where is that front?
Hurricane hunters are finding Hurricane Matthew extremely dangerous.....will hit Jamaica directly. Every parish will be affected.
I can’t imagine that at all.....heck we had a wind storm here once where I heard the metal awnings screeching and garbage roll down the street like rolls of tumble weed......just that was frightening enough.....but to see the devastation you saw...can’t begin to imagine.
I don’t know...it was posted on twitter account of weather man....
According to our Airline Meteorology people, what happens depends on when the storm makes the turn to the north.
Spent much of tonight redeploying airplanes and crews.
Huge uncertainty exists Day 5 and beyond. The entire US Eastern Seaboard needs to monitor Hurricane Matthew. Plenty of model ‘disagreement’.....
All are saying no way yet to determine what it will do...and models differ.......looks like it’s a guessing game at this point....
Sounds like you had your hands plenty full...
It would be hilarious if Walmart sent it’s own employees in to burn down all the Walmarts in the path of this “hurricane”. LOL.
Looks as if the models are converging on OBX getting a little chewed up from beach erosion at a minimum.
The “Hurricane Hunters” do fly out of Biloxi.
Oh Well

First of the month is always “interesting”. New month, new crew schedules, new call-offs...
Should be an “Interesting” week, especially if this thing spins it’s way north, just offshore, as a couple of models are predicting.
Thank goodness the clintoon foundation is poised to rush in to help.
Recent report indicates Matthew has weakened slightly to a cat-4 as of 5 a.m. EDT.
Chance of hitting any point on the east coast of the U.S. is probably about one in three as a large part of the guidance shows the hurricane heading out to sea from the Bahamas. So it’s by no means a sure thing yet.
hope it doesnt hit jersey. christie will be sucking up to obama again.
Thanks for posting that projected plot of the ‘cane.
The earlier plots were indicating Haiti and parts of the DR were going to be hit. ...Seems to have more to the West.
Been watching it - praying it leaves the mainland alone and for those in its path but hope it goes anywhere but into the Gulf - Katrina was enough to tide me for the rest of my life.
I have a wedding in Maryland on Sunday, Oct. 9th. What are the chances that travel will be affected?
It depends. Do you want to go to this wedding? If not, cancel now. It’s the perfect excuse.
