It’s heresy to ask, but I must ... is David Ortiz a U.S. citizen? I don't think so - I think he's from the Dominican Republic. There are plenty of international players here on work visas. Occasionally there's a paperwork snag and someone has to report late to spring training, although that seems to happen less often now than it used to.
