Maybe they could make a statue of noted hero Ray Nagin out of chocolate and display that.....
With Jackson’s history, I can understand why they feel the way they do, but where do you draw the line?
Enough of this nonsense...
Who erases history?
Soviet Union
Communist China
Taliban
To name a few, nice company.
Total BS!
Black slaves were valuable property, unlike the Irish slaves.
Potato Lives Matter!!!!!!!
Did they get the Confederate statues down? I heard the companies had so many threats, they would not take the jobs.
How long will it take until they notice that right near by there is a cathedral named for St. Louis, the Islamophobe?
There were plenty of free blacks who owned slaves...
And there were white Irish slaves.
White people did own slaves here at a time when slavery was a universal condition. VEry few places around the globe from our continent, around and back. did not have such an thing. In time, it was seen as the evel it was and, in many countries slavery was abolished.
In this country it did take a cruel civil war, but slavery was truly ended. Elsewhere it still exists, with people still owned as property and millions of others held in a life that is slavery with a different spelling.
Slavery ended here eight generations ago, 151 years.
I see 2 kinds of people in this country as regards the history of slavery. There are those who know full well the history of slavery, but living as free citizens of the greatest country in history, are enjoying the blessings of citizenship HERE and now.
I see others in this country who regard slavery as something that ended last Monday, and seemed determined to cling to the bitterness that centers their lives. It must be sad to have such an attitude as the only driving force within one. Makes for a hell of a life.
I found an 1840 political token of Andrew Jackson in my backyard. I am sure it was dropped there brand new because 1840 happens to be the same year my house was moved to where it is. It is in great condition. On one side is Jackson emerging from a treasure chest with a bag of gold. The obverse has beautiful rendition of a “jackass”. Upon minor research it apparently depicts the first usage of the democrat donkey. Its message evidently has to do with him raiding the National Treasury. My question is, should I report this to my local gestapo? ..........should I donate to the new American African American Amercan Museum? ........?
Drive dat wedge! DRIVE dat wedge! Let’s not EVER look for anything we have in common, but make sure we magnify every little difference.
There is no legitimate argument against Confederate monuments.
Imagine taking a trip back in history and you come across a group of black rioting. One might say look rioters, let’s say hi. But you will have to understand why I might say run!
It’s not that Jackson was a Confederate.
It’s that he was white.
From 1790 to 1810, the proportion of free blacks in the Upper South rose from less than 1% to overall, and nationally, the proportion of free blacks among blacks rose to 13%.
So before his death in 1799, Washington would have likely seen many “free negroes”, as they were called at the time.
