It wasn’t just the Irish. My great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather (seriously), John Ross, was one of 8,000 Scottish prisoners taken by Cromwell at the Battle of Worcester in 1651. It’s thought that he was brought to the “New World” as a slave.
Same story in my husband’s family of McKenny. Dumped in Maine somewhere in the 1600s.
