Interesting. Here in Texas in the German settlements you can find some really good sausage, pastries, and history. As you said, they came here to work, not for welfare.
More than just “work” - German refugees from the Holocaust and World War II (many of them Jews) basically put America’s nuke, aerospace and missile programs into hyperdrive. You can’t put a price on Germans’ contributions to Western prosperity and security... which is more than anyone can say about the Middle East...
