I used to say that I was sane and had the papers to prove it.

I was referring to my ‘passing’ the tests for Submarine Service,

It took me a few years to realize that the test was not to determine the sanity of us but to prove ‘we’ were CRAZY enough to jump from a sound aircraft, sink a steel tube or swim for miles with far too much weight strapped to ones back.

Being in the Corps was crazy enough but signing up for submariner
service takes crazy to a whole new level. ;~)
