A Taste of Sand
For the first time since 9/11/2001, I did not fly the flag. I may never again.
Permit me to elaborate: I am ashamed.
Why? some of you may ask. The reason is simple. I knew Id find the exact words to quote before I saw them written:
And today, we once again pay tribute to these patriots, both military and civilian, who serve in our name, including those far away from home in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Thats from our President. Our nations militarys Commander in Chief. Thats the leader of our country that cant even ensure our military are cared for after theyve served.
He also said this:
Well, we have seen the answer in a generation of Americans -- our men and women in uniform, diplomats, intelligence, homeland security and law enforcement professionals -- all who have stepped forward to serve and who have risked and given their lives to help keep us safe. Thanks to their extraordinary service, weve dealt devastating blows to al Qaeda.
Yes, but not only did we create ISIL and fail to care for our Veterans, we now have a war on our streets against the law enforcement professionals he lauds, principally due to failure of leadership and stoking racial matters on a scale unprecedented in American politics. This serves no other purpose but to divide us.
But this isnt about politics: This is about Bin Laden laughing from the grave at that which weve done to ourselves. Its about abrogation of responsibility, at all levels, leadership and individual. On 9/11/2001 we were witness to the loss of 2,996 souls; our response to that has been a constant drumbeat of erosion of our Constitution, our rights and our freedoms. A majority of us acquiesce in quiet obedience. In the wake of those attacks we were witness to secret 9/11 Commission documents (Saudis), proof that evidence that the attack was detected prior (Able Danger), evidence that the war in Iraq was waged on false pretenses and ridiculous Rules of Engagement implemented which killed untold numbers of US soldiers (the exact number is obfuscated) and continues to do so in a WOT without end. Worse, average Americans are subjected to more scrutiny than foreigners at our border or those brought here as refugees.
We can shake the granny out of Grandma at the airline security checkpoint but we cant even secure our own borders; there is no will to do so. Drug, weapon, cash & people smuggling continues unabated while were all entreated to the theater of security (rather false sense of). All the while our State Dept. imports supposed refugees on a wholesale basis from countries in conflict with little background checks, setting the stage for future culture clashes here on our soil with a drumbeat of globalization and accommodation of others beliefs at the expense of our Constitution, Culture and Sovereignty. How do we pay for it? We print more money. Security is not, fiscal or otherwise.
I am also ashamed that the country under whose flag I was born has sacrificed so many rights afforded us under the Constitution. Most serious of these is the free press. With our descent into security state consciousness has come the apparatus formerly reserved to works of fiction (1984) and failed systems (Communism): Propaganda. We cant trust what were told about anything. Elections, health statistics, job statistics, fiscal health of the country hell, if you didnt watch the Inspectors General for The Fed being quizzed by Congress you have no idea how bad the fog of insignificance has become. Do you have a clue what National Debt, Treasury Certificates and Negative Interest Rates mean to the country or to your grandchildren? Most havent a clue. With this propaganda machine has come such great obfuscation of facts that we are literally at war with ourselves (race against race) and, most recently, generation pitted against generation. To pit one segment of the population against the other is a tried & true tactic of the state that cares not about its people, but about its power (itself). It exercises control over the population: Federal grants & giveaways, healthcare, entitlements/benefits, false sense of security with minimum wage hikes while simultaneously raising both our taxes and cost of living with irresponsible fiscal governance. Those that dont second-guess everything stated by those in government analogous to the metaphorical ostrich with its head in the sand, most go about their merry lives ignorant of the battles being waged, the posturing for power, the threat that everything our parents and their parents worked for over generations is now at greater risk than ever. By some accounts, its already too late. The news is not.
Third only to the failed military leadership which has resulted in unnecessary military deaths is that which angers me most: How we treat our Veterans.
Veterans have no fund. There are no lawyers lining up to look out for their rights. How many 9/11 victims families or those of first responders are living on the street and/or dying while awaiting their doctors appointment? I do not intend to critique the loss & suffering of those in NY, but when juxtaposed against the treatment of our Veterans, there is no comparison. Our Veterans could only wish to be treated like Ground Zero victims. We should all be ashamed.
Absent the aforementioned, I am most ashamed of my fellow man. Within this country exists apathy and ignorance on scale not seen in generations. A generational conflict is on the horizon. Our own government is stoking the fires: Generational conflict, racial conflict, cultural conflict all the while preaching that our path to greatness is Globalization.
The ONLY thing that makes this country great is the Constitution our Sovereignty. Worse than failing to reverse the damage done to it in the wake of the post-9/11 scramble for emotional security and government posturing for more power is failure to prevent further erosion of our rights.
No, I did not participate in remembrance of 9/11. The very notion makes me sick to my stomach.
On 9/11, I felt fortunate that our boy came home from the sandbox safely, saddened by his loss of so many friends and having endured fighting a conflict which no one wants to win that sorry state of affairs now known as the War on Terror', a cliché akin to the never-ending War on Poverty, War on Drugs, War on Epidemic of Disease, etc., etc
He also stated,
But in the end, the most enduring memorial to those we lost is ensuring the America that we continue to be -- that we stay true to ourselves, that we stay true to what's best in us, that we do not let others divide us.
We divide ourselves. We have lost our path. We have lost the power of the purse. That control you think youll exercise November 2nd isnt. Without regard for whom you may vote, this election will change nothing without the will to change everything.
That Taste of Sand? It doesnt go down any easier without removing it.
Are you Colin Kappernack?
Personally, I do not see how, NOT FLYING THE FLAG, when done by a true patriot, does anything but make a statement of complacence.
Your list of frustrations are generally valid, but dropping out does not solve anything.
JMHO
I haven’t flown my flag since Usurpation Day, January 20, 2009
It will remained furled until we have a legitimate President again.
Try having sex on the beach, not much better.
I thought this thread was going to be about Hillary doing a face plant and getting a mouthful of sand.
I don’t understand the whole concept of designating 9/11 as “a day of service and volunteering”.
I am in no way saying service and volunteering is a bad thing, I just don’t understand how it is associated with 9/11.
Something of that seems just wrong.
.
9/11 must forever stand for the rejection of the terror of Islam.
.
Breathes there a man with soul so dead.....

I like the way you express yourself!

I took down the Stars and Stripes on July 5, 2016 as soon as I heard Comey say that some people would be indicted for similar crimes as HRC committed, but that she wouldn’t be. It was replaced with Washington’s “An Appeal to Heaven” flag. We live in a banana republic. If our laws don’t mean anything against the great and powerful, then we are a nation of men and not laws.
My country wasn’t destroyed by 9/11, nor by Obama.
It’s dirty and crusty with the barnacles and puke stains of the left - the very people who look at the bounty placed before them and say “This is too good. This must be destroyed”. They are demonic, they are evil and they hold spite only to hold spite - They are demons among us.
9/11 opened our eyes to what Islam is, and what it wants to do. It opened our eyes to an enemy unlike any other. It shook us awake and told us to prepare for the coming day when we will need to take up arms and kill entire nations of people because of what they believe. It told us that tolerance now sees a limit.
I am tuned out to ‘news’. When I realized it was 9/11 it was due to online articles, one quoting Zero that got my goat. Flying in the flag - at half or otherwise - felt more akin to following the sheeple than being patriotic about nothing.
Complacent?
If that’s your word for my rant, then all the more reason that I wrote it.
I’ll fly her upside down next year.
Likewise, except on days like Memorial Day. I briefly flew mine upside down as well.
Agreed. They’re using 9/11 as some perverted nationalistic nonsense to draw people into acceding to the usurpation of their rights.
