Washington (CNN)FBI Director James Comey is defending the bureau's Friday afternoon release of documents from the Hillary Clinton email investigation, saying "we don't play games" and that the documents were put out when ready. In a memo to employees Wednesday, Comey said the decision to not recommend charges against the now-Democratic nominee wasn't a close call.
Read Comey's full memo "At the end of the day, the case itself was not a cliff-hanger; despite all the chest-beating by people no longer in government, there really wasn't a prosecutable case," he said in the memo. In recent weeks, Comey has met with groups of former FBI agents as part of his routine visits to field offices around the country. In at least one recent such meeting, according to people familiar with the meeting, former agents were sharply critical of the FBI's handling of the Clinton probe and particularly the decision to not recommend charges against Clinton. Comey gave the meeting participants a similar answer about the case not being a cliff-hanger. CNN Politics app Comey said he briefly considered holding the documents until after the Labor Day holiday, knowing that the Friday afternoon release would likely prompt criticism. He also said more document releases are coming.

You cannot defend the indefensible. You can try, but no one with half a brain will believe you and they certainly won’t trust you in the future. If Trump wins, one of his first acts should be to ask for Comey’s resignation.

The reason for prosecuting Petraeus was because he hid documents in insulation of his home. If that is tantamount to obstructing evidence and prosecution, what would he say about using proprietary software to delete emails, smashing cell phones and mailing laptops that get lost in the mail? The notion that she would permanently erase evidence with special software and plead incompetence regarding training in classification despite signing an agreement that acknowledged that she did is the smoking gun that the media always screams for. And for some reason, the FBI opted not to record her interview goes against standard policy. The notion of any impartiality is destroyed and the credibility of the bureau is the lowest since Hoover’s shenanigans.

A few weeks ago everyone was telling me the the FBI director was an impeccable, 'just the facts ma'am' kinda guy. Not corruptible.

I ALSO heard that - if Comey did NOT recommend prosecution - that many, many FBI agents would leak some of the embarrassing and unlawful acts they uncovered in the course of their year-long investigation. I believe the number of agents bandied about that were investigating was rumored to be about 150.

I could have missed it, but I haven't heard of EVEN ONE agent - even anonymously - being credited with a plausible leak.
Well. Time for Trump to clean house at the FBI. We don't appear to have one patriot on the payroll there.
No one releases important documents to a team/review on the afternoon of a long awaited 3-day weekend and expects anyone to give it ANY attention.
