Paterno is a scapegoat for the PSU Administration who should have been responsible for Sandusky. It is ridiculous to say that an 80 year old football coach is responsible for the HR of a major state university. As much as the university milked Paterno for all the fame and money he brought to the school, its crazy to say that he should not have been supported with an administration team to make sure that everything off the field was managed properly.
There are lots of examples of football coaches, even very popular ones having failings in other areas. And besides he was one year from an announced retirement.
