Germany accuses Fiat of car emissions cheating

The German government has accused Fiat-Chrysler of building emissions cheating technology into some vehicles...

Affected vehicles deactivated their storage catalytic converters and exhaust recuperation systems after six test cycles or a 22-minute delay -- two minutes longer than the standard length of an emissions test -- resulting in NOx emissions "9 to 15 times higher than the legal limit", it said...

Under EU law, each manufacturer earns approval from its national regulator, allowing it to sell vehicles Europe-wide.

But critics say the system means that regulators can go easy on their own country's auto-makers.

Berlin has been under pressure from a German parliamentary inquiry set up in July, which is looking into whether the federal government could have turned a blind eye to excessive emissions.

Thanks! The Aztec I never ever see.

I am in the NY area and I see almost every type of car and I drive 120 miles a day. Yep. I saw a Bentley this morning on I-684!!

in 20 years it more than 1 million miles....I still love to drive...

But I see very very few of those fiats and the advertising was pretty funny with the different women.

So, who is it really that is the excessive emissions czar????

Do you want that unelected bureaucrat specifying what your car’s motor can do????????????????

This country is now light years ahead of where it was in the seventies regarding emissions from vehicles. I would guess light years ahead of any other nation, period.

Air quality, same thing, way way ahead, so now why does one think the move should be ever tighter restrictions on purchasers, manufacturers, parts folks regulators etc, do we really need ever more oppressive regulations that have now surpassed what is cost effective. Insanity rules in Washington DC.

It is a mnemonic, to help remember!
I remembered!

Here is one from over FIFTY years ago! A biochemistry class.

On Old Olympus Towering Top A Finn and German Viewed A House.

And everyone thought I’d forget it!

Just what to do with it? Not so sure.

From the Green car link.

And those aren’t the same as U.S. gallons: They’re 20 percent larger, containing 5 quarts rather than the 4 quarts in a U.S. Gallon.

In other words, that “80-mpg” European car is doing nearer 67 mpg—and it doesn’t achieve anything near that in real life, because testing procedures are so far from reality.

This kind of crap is why we need a government ‘office of fairness’. To protect us from non American BS!

And yes they would need a fully equipped SWAT team, and tactical nuclear devices. And full access to everyone’s phone and computer...

The old “what goes around, comes around” game...the US bashes VW, Germany bashes FIAT/Chrysler...stay tuned for more fun... all over miniscule emissions, as they are these days.

In neuroanatomy it was : on old Olympus towering tops, a fat armed girl vends snowy hops.
