Is whatever they (presumably) did worth months/years in a prison in Brazil?

That’s what I’m afraid of. Will a Brazilian court consider that their being American should result in stiffer penalties than if they were Brazilians accused of the same offense?
Will nationalism come into play?
Or will some high muckety muck hint about something that will make it easily go away, so long as it’s hushed up?
And are there criminal charges for the Brazilian guard who demanded cash at the threat of shooting them to death (if that is what happened)? Is that legal? Do you need to get an estimate on the damage first or can the guard just guesstimate it and then kill the person if he does not come up with the dough?
