WWII Navy Veteran Sharitt Baker received a special salute for his 99th birthday Friday.
He was greeted by the Patriot Guard at noon in front of the Legend Assisted Living center.
They escorted him down Wanamaker Road to the Kansas History Museum so that he could visit his donated WWII artifacts.

If you were a 15-year-old WWII vet in 1945, you’d be 86 now...
The auto mechanic we used for around 45 years was a Navy Pearl Harbor survivor. He lived to an old age but is gone now as nearly all WWII veterans are.

So true. Baby boomers have gone from seeing endless commercials for Clearsil to endless commercials for walk-in bathtubs.
Do you remember in school when we sang songs in music class like the “Marine Hymn” and Army song? A little hard to picture that now.
The fourth verse: "Our Father's God to Thee, Author of Liberty, to Thee we sing, Long may our land be bright, With Freedom's holy light, Protect us by Thy Might, Great God our King!"
The sixth verse literally breaks my heart: "Thy safeguard Liberty, The school shall ever be, Our Nation's Pride, No tyrant naught shall smite, While with encircling might, All here are taught the Right, With Truth allied."
