What am I missing here? Why would the cartels want to destroy their marketplace? Why would the cartels want to do anything that would bring in serious law enforcement presence and/or U.S. military presence? If the cartels want to create more chaos along the border, it is not like they need a bunch of jihadists to do it. I would think that the cartels would be very satisfied with the status quo and I don’t see their motivation for disturbing it.

Maybe they have larger ambitions for the US? Reconquista agenda? They will seek drugs no matter what happens here.
