Electricity prices are soaring in states generating the most wind power, U.S. Energy Information Administration data show. Although U.S. electricity prices rose less than 3 percent from 2008-2013, the 10 states with the highest percentage of wind power generation experienced average electricity price increases of more than 20 percent.
Iowa – 27% South Dakota – 26 Kansas – 19 Idaho – 16 Minnesota – 16 North Dakota – 16 Oklahoma – 15 Colorado – 14 Oregon – 12 Wyoming – 8
From 2008-2013 electricity prices rose an average of 20.7 percent in the top 10 wind power states, which is seven-fold higher than the national electricity price increase of merely 2.8 percent.

That explains a lot. There’s a wind farm a few miles south of my house, and my electric bill this month was over $200, a new record.
It’s been the ultimate goal of ‘alternative energy’ proponents from the very beginning: not greater power for less money, but less and less power, until we’ve all moved back into caves and abandoned our depredations of Mother Gaia.
Indeed, there are a geat many Americans who feel that Mankind was the worst thing that ever happened to Earth and, in consequence, we should all become extinct.
At all events, and in the final analysis, it’s never been about electricity or gasoline or anything like that, it’s always been about Leftist political priorities.

The democrats are behind this. They want higher rates. remember when the price was 5 to 8 cents. In California it is 18 cents in many places. They use the tax money (a percentage) to pay for whatever, most likely pensions as they are eating state revenue.

Not to ruin a good rant, but I think the article is very misleading.
Although these states had rate increases that look huge when reported in terms of percentage, the amount in terms of cents per kWh was around 2 cents, the same as the national average.
For instance, Idaho’s reported whopping 34% increase means it went from 6 cents per kWh to 8. Nationally, while rate went up only 2% it was still a 2 cent jump - from 10 cents to 12. Incidentally, with their 8 cent/kWh rate Idaho is still the lowest rate in the nation.
I’m not saying wind power = lower rates, but hyping the percentage increase without even mentioning the real dollar amount seems disingenuous at best.
I must apologize. I really screwed up the math.
the 2% national jump only increased it from 11.5 to 12 cents. I calculated a 20% increase instead of 2%. Completely changes the dynamic of my post.
Idaho still is the cheapest state for electricity though.
Sure does. Mostly red states out in the midwest to west. Of course I just got my electric bill from Florida and thought for sure we’d be on the list. My electric bill I got yesterday was $112.76. Makes me so mad. I have my house at 81 air conditioning.....my family thinks I am just great....lol. Look I tell the kids they will have more when their Mom and I die this way. HAHA. Plus when the 18 year old says can’t we turn down the air just a little more......I look at him and say, “Can’t you just pay the 24K a year for college that his Mom and I pay for?” Shuts him up pretty quickly.
Mine for SECO Energy in Florida is 0.110600 per KWH used (first 1000)
0.13060 per KWH used (over 1000)
I guess that is decent.
And crude oil is under $40 a bbl. Have to start running the coal fired wind generators if this keeps up!

I don’t think it is wind power that is driving up rates. It is a combination of many factors.
What might a few of those factors be?

States have been active in adopting or increasing renewable portfolio standards, and 29 states now have them. These standards require utilities to sell a specified percentage or amount of renewable electricity. The requirement can apply only to investor-owned utilities (IOUs) but many states also include municipalities and electric cooperatives (Munis and Co-ops), though their requirements are equivalent or lower.

You mean like the green energy movement itself. Shutting down perfectly good coal fired power plants equals stable energy prices and a stable electric grid. Of course those moves are primarily EPA related, but certainly the impetus is the famously disingenuous green movement.
Coal is still the cheapest means of electric energy production and over time the move to natural gas will double the electricity cost, without taking into account the volatile nature of natural gas prices. Disingenuous is the battle cry of the green movement, and in the end they should pay dearly for their deception.
