My wife isn't an entertainer or a politician.

She was able to get the permit easier than when dealing with the DMV (automobile bureaucracy for those not in MA).

After she was issued the permit, the police chief told her to have me go and get one.

You're living in the wrong part of the state.

So you live in a town that issues permits and based on your personal experience you conclude that the average person in Massachusetts can easily get a permit. It's not true. Not at all. Many towns flatly refuse.

You have no idea where I live. Hint: it is not in Massachusetts. But I do know people who have moved because their police chief flatly refused. And I do know at least one well known entertainer who was issued one - even with a well publicized history of drug use. That's Massachusetts!
