When I lived in Northern Virginia Great Falls was out in the sticks and a fun place to go and climb rocks. Same here. When I was 17 I worked one summer on the grounds crew at Madeira School. 376 acres right there on the river. My mother was a bookkeeper there.

I remember the Jean Harris incident. I worked there in about 1970 when Barbara Keyser was headmistress. The following summer, I worked on construction of the indoor horse riding ring. That is a steel Butler building about 110' x 240'. Nice campus.

About that time my Grandparents on moms side lived in a big stone house he built on 7 acres on Columbia Pike in Annandale. The practically gave that place away in the early 80’s and retired to North eastern Rockingham Co.

My uncle Jimmy was one of the first 5 Fairfax police officers.

When the parents relocated to Fairfax Station in 76/77 I ended up working as a teen about 4 years at Davis’ General Store, Fairfax Hay and Grain.

I knew a Madeira alumna who had been there when Jean Harris was in charge. Didn’t get any great stories except that Harris was a strange bird.... not surprising considering what she went on to do. Apparently Tarnower was dropping their affair for a new mistress, and she just snapped.
