How does this equate to "breaking with Trump"?

Literally, because Trump did not endorse McCain. Most conservatives believe that's because McCain is a GOPe RINO. On the subject of endorsing McCain, Gingrich broke with Trump and endorsed the GOPe RINO. Seems fairly obvious.

Because Newt endorses one who Trump has not opted to endorse does not a rift make. One doesn't have to be a cloned yes-man to be one's ally.

Newt has also disagreed with Trump on a few of his past comments - all the while being a strong supporter.

We need fewer Tokyo Roses and more of those who actually invest themselves in the task of keeping Hillary out of the WH and FR viable.....
