Spot on. He definitely proved his point. What’s funny is the governor’s spokesman stated that “only a circuit judge can appoint a private lawyer” however, that’s not exactly what the statute says. The statute that the director of the PD’s office and the one that the spokesman quoted actually conflict each other. If taken at their literal word, the PD director is correct and the spokesman is wrong (based on my initial reading of the statutes).
Spokesmen are usually paid liars. A public defender has to know the law and how it’s interpreted.
