The answer is, Ali didn't see him as his hero, he flashed him as part of his grievance against the West and also studied his methods of terrorism, along with other mass killers, to do the same.

The Merkel government has bern shown time and again to lie to the public, and to spin false narratives. They will do so here. Next you will hear about gun control. Gun control was already in place in this case and was a total failure.

Personally, my opinion is this Ali guy indeed had built up grievance against the Germans and the West in general in place of his own failures, indeed was an oddball, then took his grievance further inspired by Islamic extremism and went out to shoot little kids in the name of Allahu Akbar. The Merkel government will try to do anything and everything to make you think otherwise.
