I think it is why he mentioned them at the end. I think they are his inspiration. The Boys might have been more reluctant( or cautious ) recruits and so he only mentioned the two women.
That was an awkward moment, to me. I think his sons might have justifiably felt slighted. I thought he perhaps was meaning that Melania and Ivaka planned much of the Convention. The sons' speeches were both magnificent
