Elections:Huckabee Says Ted Cruz Earned ‘Lyin’ Ted’ Moniker

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who has been supportive of Donald Trump, says Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has earned his “Lyin’ Ted” moniker by refusing to endorse Trump despite his previous pledge to support the Republican nominee.

Huckabee made the comments on Facebook after Cruz’s speech here at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday night where he was booed by some of the delegates for not explicitly offering support to Trump.

Wrote Huckabee: “The question of the night was whether Ted Cruz would honor his word and support the nominee or earn the moniker ‘Lyin’ Ted’ given to him by the man who won. The question was whether Cruz would make his speech about HIS future or the future of the country. And that question was answered when Ted Cruz chose to not keep his word that he (along with me and every other GOP candidate) gave one year ago in that very arena where tonight he put his own ambitions above country.”

Huckabee and Cruz, angling for some of the same voters, clashed during the GOP primary.

He absolutely does!

Trump could have denied Cruz a speaking slot, in which case he would have been criticized for being so thin-skinned he couldn’t even risk any opposing views and Cruz could have lied and said he would have endorsed Trump.

Instead Trump gave Cruz enough rope to hang himself.

Nobody can criticize Trump for being willing to let his opponent have his say. And the world now knows Cruz is not a man of his word, and is too petty and arrogant to be gracious in defeat. Thank God we don’t have to worry about the Cruznadian Creep leading our country!

I don’t think he deserves a place in the Senate, but that’s up to the voters of Texas. Nor do I want him anywhere near the Supreme Court, but that is up to the President, which is to say “not gonna happen!”.

I agree with you. This does not hurt Trump at all. He gave Ted the opportunity to speak regardless of the endorsement. The Texas delegates (the ones that CSPAN interviewed) were very angry at Cruz last night.

And, the time slot that Cruz received was a primo spot. He could have made something of a splash in that spot nationwide. Instead, he got petty and vindictive and booed off the stage. Great move.

For myself, and I live in Texas....there is no way I would vote for Cruz. My personal opinion is that Cruz because of his aptly nick name of “Lying Ted” won’t get enough support to even launch a re-nomination for his seat in the Senate. Time will tell.

Cruz earned that nickname long before last night. But last night reinforced that the name was appropriate.

Funny how the pledge that was designed to embarrass Trump has ended up proving all these other candidates to be liars.

I absolutly hated the term “Lyin’ Ted” Cruz.

I felt it was a slander on a man I felt was the most principled politician of my lifetime and I tried to refute every purported “lie” his opponent tried to falsely pin on him.

The Republican Party, in an attempt to prevent Donald Trump from running a third party Presidnetial run after the Republican establishment sabotaged his Republican nomination, had all Republican primary candiates sign an oath that they would support and endorse the eventual Republican nominee.

Cruz signed the oath and promised to support the eventual Republican Party Presidential candidate.

That candidate turned out to be Donald Trump

Cruz backed out of his oath and refuses to endorse Donald Trump.

Can't refute the accusation of “Lyin Ted” on this one - Ted lied, and that lie is huge and consequential

We learned all we need to know about Ted during the Iowa Caucus. No doubt he spread the lie Ben Carson was dropping out
