Nor, I’d guess, had Reagan ***pledged*** to endorse Ford.
Exactly. I’m in a pissing match on FB with someone over this very same issue.
Reneging on your pledge of support for the candidate? Kashich, Cruz, Lindsey Grahamnesty?
If it’s convenient to reneg on a pledge of support (engineered to embarrass the one guy who winds up WINNING the campaign for the nomination), what other pledges will they reneg on?
Any future support from so-called “conservatives” for ANY of the candidates who reneged on their pledge proves their unworthiness to wear the label of “conservative.”
No more nor less a betrayal than lying under oath.
Nor, Id guess, had Reagan ***pledged*** to endorse Ford.
Bing!
Surely just slipped levin’s mind, that little factoid.
God he’s insufferable in his disdain. I heard him for a few minutes yesterday and his ranting made me laugh. Foolish foolish man. Is he in love with cruz? Something weird with those 2.
First, I doubt Levin’s research.
Second, I’m betting that Reagan specifically asked people to vote for Gerald Ford.
Third, the word ‘endorse’ was not a big deal then. I lived through that time, I remember, and it simply wasn’t. To say “I’m voting for him.” or something similar to that. To encourage others to vote for him, to campaign for him, to support him in public. All of those things fell under the heading of “endorse”....and were probably more significant proof of endorsement than to mouth the word ‘endorse’ and be done with it. (Like I suspect will be the case with Rubio.)
