Still a few hours left in the day, however.

What you had was almost certainly the seed from a single cross hybrid ‘fruit’.
The single cross hybrid seed produces a great crop, in fact, probably the greatest crop that can be achieved from natural cross breeding.
However, that is the end of the line, new seed has to be grown every year, it’s a ‘one and done’ seed.
