Maybe this is awful and maybe a bit selfish but it did spoil our shopping trip. 'We bought all this lovely shopping and now I can’t be bothered with it.

What has she said that is untrue? She was very forthright in what might go through the minds of anyone who is near to, but not personally affected by a tragedy. A lovely shopping trip has been ruined and she now has items that are meaningless to her and also the sight of them will bring back horrific memories. I'm sure many of us have sights, places, fragrances, or other things we avoid because the evoke memories that are horrible. Isn't this what her point was?

These are the times when I am reminded more than ever the petty issues in my life are nothing compared to what others suffer.

Maybe it speaks to a flaw in my character, but I cannot find any empathy for her mis-speak. So her shopping trip was ruined, at least she is alive and not lying mangled in the middle of the street.

But that's just me, warts and all.
