64th and MacArthur is the area that gives Oakland its first-in-the-nation status as the murder Capitol. Guess they were just stocking up on weapons.
I attended a conference in Oakland a number of years ago that was hosted by the Omni Hotel in Jack London Square. Jack London Square was a very nice commercial area that was like an oasis in the middle of the Oakland blight. It was a very heavily guarded oasis, however. Every entrance into the area was guarded 24/7, and if I remember correctly all vehicles entering had to stop and at least state where they were going. It was like staying in Fort Apache, although the people outside the fort’s walls were probably less dangerous than those in Oakland.
