I meant when he was VP. In the 1950s he was remorseful about the excesses of Stalin and regretted his earlier praise of Russia. Plus I think he was influenced by public opinion in the 50s and felt the need to deflect. By the way, check out his religious journey. He was New Age before it was cool.
