Yes, and you don’t have to have a complete parallel to add some interesting elements.

And that’s probably the best thing about the books: the Nordic history is implied, but still, one is not quite sure of the genealogies of all the races.
Meaning, they could be us, centuries before.

And I forgot to ask how the Competitor Plumbing Corp handled the broken toilet?

Our family, both sides, is heavily Germanic, especially when you go back a few hundred years. Anoreth has particularly embraced this, and I don’t blame her, given her inclinations. (If we had Spanish to work with, she might have done that, but we don’t ;-).
Regardless of your personal heritage, if you’re an English language speaker, you can get into the Germanic mood.

Fixed it in less than half an hour, and used the parts Tom had bought. Just had more finesse!

hed better have some plan for receiving it.Especially if a signature is required..
But FedEx is noted for leaving things in plain sight on your porch without doorbell ringing or knocking or otherwise announcing their presence. Which might be OK if your closest neighbor speaks Moo, but not if your porch is visible from a well traveled path..

LOL!
I had an unexpected trip into LV — the far NW side this morning, and as I was turning in the driveway, I saw two cars coming at me. I didn’t pay any attention to them but went ahead and backed into my spot.
I shut the engine off and heard the engine still running. I caught movement out of my left eye and saw Oscar the Grouch, making the same pivot a few feet farther away, and he backed in right beside me, before I could even set the emergency brake!.
I don’t think he was happy, but ohwell. LOL! The nerve of that guy!
And now, fans, I’m taking my body to bed and read and play solitaire or whatever until I’m ready to sleep. With luck, I’ll go to Wally’s in the morning.

Night! We’re going to the gym for yoga and other activities, since we were constrained this morning by the Real Plumber.

I read them in my early 20’s when they were the underground rage in colleges....nearly fifty years ago.
;>)
Also read the National Lampoon satire, “Bored of the Rings” back then... the Bilbo character in the last throes of battling Gollum for the ring in the darkest cavern finds pity for the creature....”pity that his .38 Smith and Wesson had run out of bullets.”

I bought my first set of LOTR in an office supply store, for the same reason: It was underground. And the boxed set contained the four volumes. And yes, I did the Lampoon satire of “Bored of the Rings,” too!
I read them every year until the movies came out. I need to read them again, and then go after the Harry Potter books once more. I think I have them all, in assorted sizes and bindings...

There was an airline service that flew to the Lake Erie islands from Port Clinton, Ohio that flew these. Of course what has happened to them since I left Ohio in 1975 I don't know..

Of course, now I'm curious..
It seems they quit flying them in 1984. A preservation group is restoring/ has restored one at the Port Clinton Airport, now Erie International Airport..

That looks like it was designed to fly.
Not just a vague concept with wings.
