Sydney McLaughlin, New Jersey's 16 year-old sensation, will attempt to become one of the youngest U.S. track and field Olympians when she competes in the finals of the women's 400-meter hurdles at Sunday's U.S. Olympic Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
McLaughlin, who turns 17 on Aug. 7, needs to finish in the top three in her race to make the Olympic team, which will compete in the Olympic Games next month in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The 400 hurdles race is scheduled for Sunday at approximately 7:03 p.m. EST. and will shown on NBC.
McLaughlin, who will be a senior at Union Catholic High School this fall, is not only favored to finish in the top 3 in the 400 hurdles, but she has a legitimate chance to win the race. McLaughlin advanced to the finals by winning her first round heat on Thursday in 55.46 and her semifinal race in 55.23, the second fast time run in the semifinals. Only Daliah Muhammad (54.14) has run faster than McLaughlin at this year's Olympic Trials.

16-Year-Old Sydney McLaughlin Cant Believe Shes Going to the Olympics
She is in from what is posted on her HS link, see above.
Good luck to her. Nice to hear some positive news!!
Behind a blistering pace and meet record set by Dalilah Muhammed, high school junior Sydney McLaughlin broke the 400 hurdles world junior record and clinched an Olympic berth. Muhammed ran 52.88 to become the No. 5 American performer of all time, Ashley Spencer finished second after running three full rounds in the 400 and the 400 hurdles, and McLaughlin ran 54.15 to break the decade-old world junior record.
Muhammed torched the field early, but McLaughlin was part of a large group fighting for the last two spots over the last three hurdles. Spencer grabbed second out of lane seven and McLaughlin, in the middle of the track, beat Kori Carter by 0.3 for the last ticket to Rio.
Sydney is indeed going to Rio!
go Irish go!
Don’t say “torched the field” when you’re talking about a Muhammed!
