I ask because given his propensity to smoke pot, his permit was likely void upon receipt.
According to MN law, any use of a schedule I V drug invalidates the permit, and in MN, marijuana is a schedule I drug.
The presence of weed, as well as having the pistol on display during a traffic stop, invalidate the permit.
Also, the coroner’s report shows his address as Ramsey county, not Hennepin, so have may have a third invalidation. MN Sheriff cannot publicly disclose if he notified them of change of address, so we may not have a definitive answer there.
A drug conviction would have resulted in a suspension or revocation. Or may already have resulted in a suspension or revocation - we don’t know, as of yet.
Having the pistol on display is a non-issue, with respect to the law. There’s no “brandishing” statute in MN. Though waving it around during a police stop wouldn’t be wise. (I haven’t, though, seen any credible claims that that’s what he did - where “credible” means stated by a witness, rather than some random guy on the internet.)
MN statute requires you to notify your issuing sheriff of a change of address within 30 days, failing to do so is a $25 petty misdemeanor.
