I use T-Mobile $30 plan. I get 100 mins of talk and 5gb of data at 4g and after that 3g speeds. I had bought my LG3 from Ebay (new).

A phone that uses Verizon can swap out a SIM card to use with T-Mobile.
Check if you can transfer http://www.t-mobile.com/switch/

I use Skype for phone calls. It uses your data. A phone call uses 1 to 3mb per minute so if you divide that into 5gb data you get 1000 to 3000 minutes of talk. I use the 100 mins from T-Mobile for emergencies if Skype cannot connect. A Skype account is about $30 a year. http://www.skype.com
I am about 30 miles from downtown Los Angeles and I get reception everywhere I go in the San Fernando valley. I work up in Calabasas which is another 20 miles north of LA. Get great reception within several miles but inside the building I work in it is weak. The co-workers who have Verizon get great reception inside. Data like 40mbs down where I get maybe 1mb so phone service is spotty using T-Mobile or Skype. I either step outside or go near a window for calls. I can get data at my desk, example for websites.
I have viewed movies at Netflix and Youtube.
It is prepaid with Verizon @ $45 a month with unlimited text and voice with 1 GB of data. Since we are both usually on WiFi data has never been an issue. Also Verizon is a little expensive, but in our market it is simply the best coverage hands down, so worth the extra $. I just do not see the need to spend hundreds of dollars a month on plans hundreds on a phone. Even though I use it extensively for work, I ave found it to be reliable and cheap.
My wife and I both use Moto E basic smartphones on tracfone. I spend about $10.00a month mostly text. You can refill with a 90 day minute card for $19.99. Includes triple minutes. You can also refill 1000 text min for $10.00 or a 300 mb data card for $10.00.. phone runs on Verizon good coverage where I use it.
Tracfone year service card. If you want the absolute lowest cost. You can get a decent phone too now.
I don’t have a smart phone and pay little for talk/text only.
Had to stop and ask a cop for directions a couple of weeks ago. It was 2004 all over again.
Check out Consumer Cellular.
I just went over 5 years of using Verizon. Very happy with it. The great thing about Verizon is it is everywhere so you never have interruptions like you do with all the other companies. Good luck with your decision.
Can't vouch for this place, never did 'em, but the price is right...FREE.
I have a virgin mobile flip phone, I have to put $20 on it every 3 months, but I usu make it there in 2. Getting tired of it, but for reasons we can’t lose the. House phone, so I don’t want another monthly bill.
I fear if I upgrade to one of those prepaid plans where you py $20/month, I’ll decide the crappy service isn’t worth not spending another 20 for better service.
Watch out about getting a phone (like a flip phone) that only uses 2G on AT&T on any smaller carrier that uses AT&T towers. In Jan 2017, AT&T is turning off its 2G service.
The Android Tracphone I got from Walmart for $59 plus tax is made by LG. Life’s Good at 6.67 per month. The three month refill is $20, including 180 minutes talk time, plus data and messages. Even if he uses three times his data or talk limit, that’s still less than Twenty bucks a month. Data accessed via wifi is no charge if he is able to use wifi at home. Voicemail is included of course.
Avoid T-Mobile, their coverage sucks in many areas.
Cricket is owned by AT&T. They bought it several years ago. Also, you can use AT&T branded phones on smaller carriers on the AT&T system (like Tracfone, H2O Wireless, Straight Talk, Consumer Cellular, Red Pocket Mobile, Jolt Mobile, Net 10, Black wireless) etc, without unlocking the phone. But Cricket branded phones are locked to Cricket only.
I have three phones on MetroPCS for thirty dollars each and $90/month.
The reception is fine and the three phones do not use much internet; just talk and text. We moved away from Verizon (2 phones for $120/month) and TMobile (1 phone for $60/month).
Check out Clarkhaward.com. Great advice there. I got a Metro PCS UNLIMITED, ands I mean unlimited, plan that is grandfathered in. I get faster service with their 4g network than I even got wit ASDL
Lot’s of great information, I truly appreciate it.
My son has a smart phone, he uses a good bit of data, of course text, not too much talk.
The wife and I have AT T, almost done with a 2 yr contract. I feel as if I pay too much, about $165 a month.
Look at what you want and bump it against what you actually need - split the difference and you’ll have what you need while not wasting as much money as you could be wasting.
I’ve had all the major carriers at one time. I use Boost now. Samsung phone and data and text for $45 a month. Coverage is perfect here in the north east. I use it mostly because there is no contract. If I want to suspend service I just don’t “re-boost”.
I do not need a smart phone, nor do I want one. Does anyone have a slider type phone. All I want to do is text and on a rare occasion talk on the phone. I have a straghttalk phone, and like their service, but want to do the 30 a month, but they don’t let you do that with any decent phone...
