A college kid had his foot blown off in Central Park on Sunday after stepping on what appeared to be a firecracker, police sources said.

Connor Golden, 18, was climbing on rocks near east 60th Street and Fifth Avenue with his two buddies — Thomas Hinds, 20, and Matthew Stabile, 18 — when he stepped on the explosive object at around 11 a.m., the sources said.

“His foot was mutilated,” said Hinds, who was spoke to The Post from the 19th Precinct on Sunday afternoon.

“I was walking in front of him and suddenly heard this extremely loud explosion directly behind me. When I turned around, I saw Connor lying there, his foot completely gone. It was insane. He was moaning and saying, ‘Get help

This “story” is a concoction made up and issued by the FBI, and only appeared after they took over the investigation.

None of what they are saying was included in the statements made by the 3 guys that were there.

This was not a homemade firecracker, that would have been a low explosive. This was an IED made with a high explosive.

Thinking maybe that it was a remote control bomb?

You don’t get that kind of power out of a firework explosive. Fireworks, even those that produce impressive booms, do not need it and do not use it. I think the term is high “brisance.” It has to do with the sheer speed of the explosion.

I am thinking pressure detonated. Like the NYPD bomb unit said.

And the matches left behind to mislead... somebody.

At any rate, I am sure a lot of people think normal firecrackers will do this. They won’t.

Well, finally we know the victim and his friends are innocent. I am really sorry for that poor guy.

You are right, not a firecracker type wound.

I was thinking this way. If planting pressure mine in the jungle you cover it in vines and broad leaf common to the area, in the forests of northern california maybe cover mine with pine needles. If in central park NYC...disguise it in trash. Always use what is common in the area for conealment.

Our first IED?

Now it is a “freak explosion?”
Sooner or later they need to get their stories straight.

I know the difference, but it isn’t my thing. I can’t articulate the fine points, but my understanding is high explosives shatter things and produce a strong shockwave (C4, PETN, etc.) where as low explosives don’t produce the shattering type damage (black powder, for instance).

The leg damage coupled with the shockwave reported by the guys with the injured point to something other than fireworks.

Our first IED?

I just don't see how it couldn't be a mooselimb jihad IED. The Eli Wiesel funeral? No such thing as coincidence.

I unfortunately saw one of the leg photos. It wasn’t a leg injury, his foot and lower leg was cleanly off and tibia sticking out. That was a powerful bomb.

Why would a “firecracker enthusiast” leave it there? What firecracker goes off by the pressure of a sneaker?

Somebody lying....

And I do remember someone on the radio early on 9/11 saying there was no connection to terrorism, but that was not sustainable once the flight attendants like Grace called in the seat numbers of the evil doers.

I have no expertise. None. I watch them—don't light them. If matches were wet from rain would it stand to reason the bag and its contents were wet? Are the larger fireworks “waterproof” (for lack of s better word)?

Put the mine in a piece of trash... it would make sense. A bag, a cigarette pack, an advertising envelope...

People will start learning (hopefully) not to step on trash...

Who’d want to do that, though? A suicide is easier understood than blowing one’s foot off.

agree.

What we’ve seen so far does not pass the smell test. They are now playing down the damage to the victims foot. From photo it was clearly hanging by a thread. I read elsewhere something about the leg at the knee was protruding. If so, very strong explosives were used.

I didn’t say it was on purpose, just that the device, was his.

In July,1997, here in Charlevoix, during the Venetian Festival Fireworks display, there was as misfire of a particularly large firework, and the resulting explosion and shrapnel killed one man, tore the left arm and left leg off a local restaurant owner, and sent over thirty people to the hospital.
