This is something M$FT has been trying to do for years. Win 10 is a start. Rather than you owning the software, M$FT wants to ding you with a periodic subscription fee.
This is not a microsoft specific thing. A lot of companies do this and it has been coming for a while.

Do you not think at some point Microsoft will see the writing on the wall with all this backlash and relent? They are better off just charging a one time fee with support, at least it worked until now.
