This happens in most TX reservoirs every summer.
We have a reverse osmosis filter for drinking water, and it completely eliminates it.

Good grief - that’s 2.5%! That much of ANYTHING in your water it bad. And FWIW, the threshold for human detection in drinking water is 15 parts per TRILLION.

We had MTBE in our groundwater. It too is harmless, certainly at the levels found. The issue was treated like a radioactive disaster.

I lived for years in SE Mountain View. That area got the majority of it’s drinking water from the Hetch Hetchy aqueduct. Always good flavor, minimal treatment required.
