The six-bedroom Colonial was listed last week for an initial asking price of $1m

The Philadelphia home where Oscar-winning actress Grace Kelly grew up and accepted a marriage proposal from Prince Rainier III of Monaco in 1955 is on the market.

Philly.com reports the six-bedroom, 2.5-storey Colonial in the city’s East Falls section was listed last week for an initial asking price of $1 million (Dh3.7 million).

The home was built in 1935 by Kelly’s father, John B. Kelly. He was a three-time Olympic gold medal-winning rower in the 1920s and later a prominent businessman active in Philadelphia politics. A sign posted outside designates the structure as a Pennsylvania historical landmark.

The family also had a beachfront home in Ocean City NJ.

My great-aunt had a beach house in Ocean City. I remember 30 or 40 relatives and “relatives” (”Hi, I’m the former roommate of your second cousin Dean from Detroit!”) there in the summer. Some of my (actual) cousins still own investment properties there.

Ever eat at Horsey’s restaurant in OC at 14th & Asbury? I spent (wasted?) a few summers as a cook there in the late 70’s. It was breakfast & dinner only, so afternoons at the beach, and nights in Somer’s Point, which was the closest place to legally get a beer (OC was dry).

There were some beautiful homes along the beach starting where the boardwalk ended around 15th or 16th, and then well south to the inlet bridge at Sea Isle City (or “Senile” City, as we called it).

No, we mostly ate at home. My father used to walk to the Coast Guard rescue station, on the inlet side, for coffee in the mornings.

Only worth $1 million and it’s near Fairmont park.

The neighborhood must have really gone down hill from when Grace Kelly lived there.

Fairmount Park is huge. It’s one of the biggest city parks in the world. Naturally, the abutting neighborhoods differ.

Grace Kelly was a pretty actress who slept with many a co-star and a prince and his friends. In short a typical actress judging by the gossip sites.

FTA: They included David Niven, William Holden, Ray Milland, Gary Cooper, Bing Crosby, Oleg Cassini and other older, married men, a type some say she favored as father substitutes. They included Prince Aly Khan, who, according to Spada, gave her an emerald bracelet as a reward for her sexual favors. They included, for heaven`s sake, the maitre d` at the Waldorf Astoria when Grace was launching her theatrical career, a man who not so incidentally knew a great many important people who could help her career.

Spada quoted Mrs. Henry Hathaway, the widow of Grace`s first movie director, as complaining: ``I have nothing good to say about Grace. She had an affair with my best friend`s husband, Ray Milland. And all the time wearing those white gloves! He asked her with whom else in Hollywood she may have had affairs, and said she replied: ``You name it, everybody.``
