Gerald Ford is the only person ever to be vice president and president of the USA without ever being elected to either office.

Ford was also on the Warren Commission and a fan of the magic bullet theory.

It's funny how the guys who played ball on the Warren Commission had long and powerful political careers, isn't it?

Another one who come to mind is "Scottish Law" Arlen Specter

you are correct; however American history sometimes has an asterisk to unusual things. David Pierce Atchison was actually acting President for less than a day in the 19th century. Seems the inauguration day (March 4th then) fell on a Sunday, and the incoming elected President refused to be sworn in on that day. Subsequently Atchison served as President for a day until such time that the new President was sworn in. He actually was probably one of the best CIC’ s we ever had, as he slept during his short tenure and did not cause any uproar during his term. Oh, for the good old days!
