If you really want it, video it off the screen.

Did the same with music. Recorded from the radio station then played it whenever I wished.

Same concept.

Someone I know gave me a DVD of a movie that just came out. You can see people's heads popping up in the audience of a movie theater! Shocking, like an episode of Seinfeld where that was done. When it came out for sale a couple months later, I bought a real copy of the movie. Much better watching a quality presentation.

One of my projects, while working for Nielsen, was to build a system to allow our mall based interviewer teams to conduct their movie trailer surveys via the Internet (they had been doing it with VHS tapes and paper survey answer sheets). On a typical weekend, we tested about 15 to 20 trailers (300 respondents per trailer/survey) across about 200 malls around the country.

The studios were ultra paranoid about the trailers getting out to people not involved in the research, so I had to do everything I could to protect them. I made a custom player, used DRM, the whole bit.

One day I had execs from Paramount, Sony, Fox, Universal, etc. in my office so I could demo the new player, and show the online questionnaire with the trailer embedded at the correct points in the survey.

They were all smiles until I said "of course anyone could still use a camcorder to record the trailer off the screen". They didn't like that one bit... but they still chose to ignore that in the end.
