When I was a pastor, I made a point of discussing it in pre-marital counseling. In the "traditional" marriage rites, each party pledges to "honor" the other. I teach that this is not only about an internal disposition, but about simple external acts.
Guys do this too. We get together and bitch about women and especially the woman we are married to. But this is, SIMPLY, a breach of the marriage vows. We promised to honor, yet we dishonor them.
I don't see how we can PROMISE or PLEDGE to love without seeing that mocking someone behind his or her back is not a violation. But "tradition" spells it out for us. ESPECIALLY when your spouse seems like a combination of Windows 1.0 and devil's spawn, you PROMISED, you GAVE YOUR UNCONDITIONAL WORD, to treat him/her with AT LEAST superficial respect.
Part of the corruption of this age is that in the name of sincerity and honesty or somesuch B.S., we hold our solemn commitments to be so light that a mere fit of passion RIGHTLY blows them away.
Guys do this almost as much as gals do.
Thank you, Mad Dawg.
