Ann Morgan Guilbert, beloved as the next-door neighbor on The Dick Van Dyke Show and seen recently on the CBS comedy Life in Pieces, has died. She was 87.

Guilbert died of cancer on Tuesday in Los Angeles, her daughter Nora Eckstein said.

Recent TV appearances included a starring role on the hospital comedy Getting On and a guest spot on Grey's Anatomy. Guilbert was a regular as feisty Grandma Yetta on the 1990s sitcom The Nanny, and in the early 1960s, played Millie Helper, Laura Petrie's perky pal, on the acclaimed Van Dyke series.

We usually watch TDVDS while we eat supper. It seems like a different universe than now, of course it seems like I grew up in a different universe.

R.I.P. Millie

I run a lot of DVDs of vintage TV. Society has always had problems but what we have now is right out of a bad dark comedy but it isn’t funny.

RIP Millie.

I know the feeling. I think what is missing now can be summed up in the word ‘values’. As an aside, if you lived next door to Millie Helper, you would have thought that she was a real pain in the ass. Guilbert nailed the role. Then again, almost everyone the Dick Van Dyke Show, nailed the role.

There were a couple of very good bits on the nanny. One where she was sitting at Fran’s mother’s kitchen table trying to get Brighton to be a fourth for her canasta team. Her teammate fell out in a Florida hotel incident. She’d mistaken an alligator for a toy float. “PS eighty stitches.”

The best one in dick van dyke is when she and Laura are at Laura’s kitchen table. Rob is so sleep deprived getting ready for Laura to have a baby he goes to kiss Laura goodbye and kisses Millie by mistake He goes for the door stops and says, “who’d I just kiss?”

Millie raises her hand.

“Oh Millie I’m sorry.”

Millie waves it off “that’s alright.”

Laura and Millie shake their heads. Husbands

Great stuff

Sad. Both DVD and Andy Griffith support Obama, baby-murder, etc. So “wholesome.”
