Eventually, I expect the YMCA to change it’s name, and take the word ‘Christian out of the accronym. I told a young mother what the “C” stands for, and she was stunned, perhaps even a little disturbed. “I had no idea that was what it meant! I almost wish you hadn’t told me.” she said, wide eyed and tense.

This is one of those nice people who has been brought up to fear or be repelled by any signs of Christian worship. She doesn’t mind the Buddha with incense and fresh fruit sitting in the local Chinese Restaurant, but anything Christian or Catholic, makes her nervous.

I think a lot of young people did not attend church growing up like in the old days.

The ones that did have rejected it.

They’ve already started to deemphasize “YMCA” in favor of the phrase “The Y”. Even their logo outside many of their newer facilities is essentially a big letter ‘Y’.

It reminds me when Kentucky Fried Chicken started using “KFC” to seem more trendy.
