The Hana Highway is NOT the place for an argument.

It certainly wasn't in 1977.

Aside from the tight twists and blind turns climbing the hills dodging potholes and fallen guava as bad as ice, it suffered from deliberate neglect as laid down by Lowell Thomas and Charles Lindbergh in efforts to forestall development as on Oahu. As the most prominent of Maui residents they had enormous influence. So the owners of Hana Ranch told me.
