But it was the casting of Olivier Award-winning black actress Noma Dumezweni as grown-up bookworm Hermione Granger that caught most media outlets attention; in the films, Granger is played by white actress Emma Watson.
I had a bunch of racists telling me that because Hermione turned white that is, lost color from her face after a shock that she must be a white woman, which I have a great deal of difficulty with, Rowling told the Observer in a recent interview. But I decided not to get too agitated about it and simply state quite firmly that Hermione can be a black woman with my absolute blessing and enthusiasm.

Is Hermoine also a boy now? Might as well do the whole hocus-pocus-presto-chango thing....
Agree.
Seven movies (I have them all) were made with Hermoine (sp) as a redheaded white English preteen/teenager. Then producers decide she’s going to be a dark skinned, black, decidedly middle aged, woman for the play and, when the fans notice this minor adjustment to the character’s incarnation, JK is shocked that they dared to complain about it?
Oh, and instead of JK showing some grace towards the fans and understanding that many will not see this new production as a continuing evolution of the character as originally presented, you instead decide to call them “racists” and decry their bigotry.
Well, JK, enjoy your billions,
It’s a free market. Entertainment involves disposable income and no more of mine will be spent on your offerings. Not because I cannot accept a black Hermoine, but because I cannot accept your condescending PC attitude.
This reminds me of the discussion of the black storm trooper in Star Wars.
I always thought of her as vary ordinary looking. Funny, that..
I predicted, accurately, that she would be the dominate character because of her acting ability and appearance. In the beginning she was just cute and articulate. by the third film she was beautiful. And still articulate.
Well, if you are into the boyish, waxed bean look then so be it,
He's only 29, but might make a respectable Bond one day.
Although I do think she is a little full of herself lately:
I do believe she is a good actress. I have a related degree from a decent college to make that judgement.
