When someone is sentenced to life in England and Wales, they have a minimum tarrif set by the judge which must be served before they’re eligable for parole. Generally speaking, you’d have to be a serial killer, a child killer or a cop killer to get a whole life tarriff. Your average common or garden murder on average gets a 15 year minimum tarriff until they’re eligable for parole.
