We put a 30 x 24 ft. Carnahan fence up for our grand kids, and then used it for the dog to run around in later. The walkout basement door for the downstairs kitchen and family room opened directly into the area. Was handy to let dog out. She got plenty of exercise chasing squirrels and such.
It was a beautiful weekend in Central Missouri. I didn’t get terribly ambitious in the garden, but I did manage to get a few minor things accomplished.
I’ve gotten most of the mess cleaned up that was left over from harvesting the winter greens. There’s still a couple hours work remaining to finish that. I put 18 starter cells of basil in the ground, and another half dozen in pots. I tilled up a good bit of the unplanted area. Seeded 75 row-feet of sweet corn, and planted a 30’ row of butternut squash along the north fence.
The tomatoes are finally starting to snap out of the funk they’ve been in due to the cool wet weather we had last month. I reseeded the skips in the pumpkin and cucumber rows. I’ll seed the remaining 250’ row of cucumber next weekend.
I picked up 20 6”x6” white oak posts and 80 1”x6” planks at the sawmill Saturday morning. I’m going to pull up the wire fence between the yard and the horse lot and replace it with board fence. It will be a great improvement in appearance over what’s there now.
Went fishing yesterday and brought home a nice mess of bluegill. Cleaned them as soon as we got home, pulled out the banjo cooker and fried em up for supper.
Goals for this week will be to finish cleaning out the rows where the winter greens were growing and get some okra seed into the ground.
It was indeed beautiful! We made the trip to Springfield. I did indoor cleaning, while Hubby mowed the yard. Cool enough that air - conditioner was not needed indoors.
Ceiling fan and floor fan were enough. Met a guy who will do the mowing going forward. Willing to do handy man work too. So it was a productive trip.
Got in way later than normal. Totally sluggish morning-a little extra coffee to keep going today. Taking a break now. Always seems to be more to do than hours in the day.
If I never posted till the work was done, I’d never post! LOL
I have been thinking about getting one of those electric burners, and doing canning out doors. We have electric outlet outdoors on back patio.
I figure I could load it up indoors, then take it outdoors for the pressure canning stage, and cool down. Avoid the heat up in the house, and help the air conditioner bill.
Sometimes, I just freeze tomatoes in the summer, and then make salsa or tomato juice etc. in the winter when the extra heat appreciated.
You may want to rethink part of that plan. When my canner is loaded up it weighs a TON!! I always end up adding water by pitcher because I can’t lift it after just the water is added. And trying to move it with jars inside could lead to breakage.
Maybe use a kids wagon to transport outdoors, if there's one around ?
Well, breakage is possible. However, I usually lift mine off the stove and put it in the sink or on a trivet to cool, rather than leaving it on the stove.
I have also wondered about how I would use it if we ever had to do with out electricity on a more extended basis. Was thinking about the camp stove, not sure if it would work. Will get around to experimenting one of these days.
While we have electrical out side, I’d have to use a garden hose for the water, and the process would be a bigger pain, and less sanitary. So I’m still noodling it over.
Raining here tonight. Started about 9pm. Ground is getting pretty saturated. I want to clean off back patio, but not until things remain dry for at least 2 or three days.
Trash is overdue for burning. Running out of trash cans to put it in. Recycling bins are full.
Hubby bagged all the grass from the lawn mowing in Springfield and brought it home for the compost and leaf piles he has in chicken wire pens. It was extra tall, so we had a full pick up load.
Rain would be good. I’m irrigating now.
Using mind energy to send it your way. LOL
Our 3 day forecast shows sunny for next 3 days! So I might get to get one of the patio areas done. Weather not too hot either for those days.
The heat will be here soon though. I need to clean the air conditioner filters etc.
