Android phone with military grade security priced at Dh64000

A new tech startup unveiled its first device yesterday, promising to be the world's fastest, most secure device.

Offering worldwide network compatibility and military grade security, Solarin comes with a price tag of $17,400 (about Dh64000).

Sirin Labs was formed in December 2014 with $72million as seed capital and as the founders say with an aim to produce the best and most secure smartphone.

The company has partnered with multiple solutions providers in its attempt to create the device which they say is aimed at world's top businessmen who want every bit of information on their smartphone to be secure.

Among the features which the company says makes the smartphone stand out from all the existing models is its emphasis on security features, design and build.

The smartphone it says is built with a unique metal matrix composite chassis – typically used in the aerospace industry for its absolute rigidity – to incorporating titanium panels for structural strength, using tough Corning Gorilla Glass 4 to help protect the curved display screen as well as the camera lens and a technical leather back panel – only materials with optimal functionality made the final grade.

The company also said that the device has been designed by world renowned industrial designer Karim Rashid and assembled by engineers more used to making the world's finest watches.

‘Every single design decision and material choice was based on performance and functionality. The product you hold today unites the very best of the world stage. Our network of extraordinary partners is the culmination of our unwavering focus on quality, not cost, regardless of complexity.’ Fredrik Öijer, VP Product, Sirin Labs.

To enable the security features it partnered with KoolSpan to integrate chip-to-chip 256-bit AES encryption, the same technology that militaries around the world use to protect their communications.

A unique security switch on the back of the handset can be activated and the phone enters a shielded mode thereby encrypting all calls and messages.

‘Cyber-attacks are endemic across the globe. This trend is on the increase. Just one attack can severely harm reputations and finances. Solarin is pioneering new, uncompromising privacy measures to provide customers with greater confidence and the reassurance necessary to handle business-critical information.’ is how Tal Cohen, CEO and Co-founder, Sirn Labs describes the initiative.

The device powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with X10 LTE and Wi-Fi and offers up to 450 Mbps downlink and up to 150 Mbps uplink speeds.

According to the company, the device supports 802.11ac 2x2 MU-MIMO (multi user multiple input, multiple output) technology, offering up to three times the speed and capacity of conventional 1x1 configuration with inbuilt WiGig (802.11ad) multi-gigabit Wi-Fi technology, offers speeds of up to 4.6Gbps.

It also supports for 24 bands LTE compatibility, setting a new benchmark in global usability.

The smartphone has a 23.8-megapixel rear camera with laser autofocus and four-tone flash and a 5.5” front facing camera.

The smartphone comes in four different models. The most expensive is the Solarin Fire Black Carbon Yellow Gold that is priced at $17,400, Solarin Crystal White carbon is priced at $15,900. Two other models are the Solarin Fire Black Carbon Diamond Like Carbon at $14,900 and Soalrin Fire Black Carbon Titanium at $13,800.
