All depends for what mission and who is using it...
Yes, we might.
Or the G3.
Or the AK.
My M1A is more reliable but the AR-10, for me at least, is a bit more accurate out past 500 meters.
FALs are great fun, but the difficulty in mounting modern optics is a real issue.

The FN Fal has the same issue as the M14 on full auto. It’s uncontrollable.
AR-10s have it all over the others in terms of accuracy.
Reliability hasn’t been an issue for the AR-10, since the first mags were STEEL. Much better than the original USGI, minority-contract aluminum 5.56 mags.
The ability to reliably and repeatably mount an optic? AR-10, easily.
The ability to easily free-float the barrel? AR-10.
Like that famous Nebraskan, IronJack says, AK.
While the AR-10 is a most wonderful platform, the AK has about 200 million is service world wide.
Drop it in water, sand whatever, and it will still function.
Inexpensive to where the stupidest mooselimb or poorest Honduran can afford one.
G3/ PTR-91 as well.
