Read the book (the real book, not the Disney or Sesame Street version) some time. The Reader's Digest condensed version is very faithful to the original, though

Reader's Digest Best Loved Books for Young Readers, Volume Five (Robinson Crusoe, The Story of My Life, The Jungle Books and The Great Impersonation (Good reads all!)

Robinson Crusoe was not 'primitive' although he was marooned in a primitive environment.
