Bringing my adopted cat, Jameson, home with me in 2014 was one of the happiest days of my life.
Having to go back to work two days later was one of the worst.
While the rest of the country is hung up on the necessity of maternity leave or even the newly coined meternity one group continues to be overlooked when it comes to paid time off from work: new pet owners.

You can take vacation for any reason, from wanting to see a concert to adopting a pet to volunteering. You don’t need new types of vacation for yet more reasons.
I thought it was bad with the demands to cater to the severely delusional, the men who deny biological reality they understood as toddlers that boy parts equals boy and say they are a woman by putting on a dress and aping out 1950s stereotypes.
After all, we don’t give anorexics stomach stapling surgery or schizophrenics facial reconstruction surgery to look like the person they think they are. At least not yet.
Another reason is the hyped up “it costs a quarter million dollars to raise a kid!” story - which assumes much bigger house, new minivan every few years and other inflated costs.
What about plant owners? If the ficus gets lonely, it starts huge fights with the philodendron. :)
