The boot up problem may be related to the Microsoft online account thing or lack thereof.

I know that when I changed over from 7 to 10 my login password changed from one on the computer itself to the Microsoft account one.

Exactly. Very annoying and then your lan/file server user name and passwords don't work anymore and you have to force it back.
