Thursday, May 5, was Americas annual National Day of Prayer.
So of course the anti-prayer Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) chose that day to sue the chaplain of the U.S. House of Representatives. FFRF president Dan Barker is upset that House chaplain Father Patrick Conroy, a Jesuit priest, has declined to invite him to deliver a non-prayer invocation on the House floor. FFRF also named House Speaker Paul Ryan, along with several members of Father Conroys staff, in the lawsuit.
Remarkably, Barker invokes his ordination as a Christian minister 41 years ago to justify his requesteven though he later renounced God and proclaimed his atheism.
Noting that House rules require guest chaplains to submit a valid ordination certificate, FFRF states that Barker, who was a Christian minister for 19 years, retains a valid ordination, which he still uses to perform weddings. Really? Do those he marries know that he has renounced the Christian faith for which he was ordained? In short, do they know that the man is a fraud?
Fortunately, the House chaplain sees through this sham. It has been a long-standing requirement, Father Conroy explains, that any guest chaplain must be ordained by a recognized body in the faith in which he/she practices (My italics.) This is a substantive requirementnot a mechanical or check-the-box requirement, Father Conroy wrote to Barkers Congressman. For example, I do not invite member-recommended individuals who have obtained an Internet-generated ordination to serve as guest chaplains, even if they hold deep and long-standing religious beliefs.
All the more reason not to invite as a guest chaplain someone whose deep and long-standing beliefs are anti-religious. On a day in which President Obama reminded us of the need to see God in everyone, FFRF reminded us that they see God in no one.
Good for him.
We live in a Free Country...one that protects our freedom of speech and protects our freedom of Religion...
Those that don’t believe in God, that’s their right to do so, but to do something like this is way out of bounds of our Country...
We were founded on God, if you people don’t like that, fine, but take your opinions elsewhere, your in America and we believe in God...
Geez, how bad is it when the Dan Barkers of the world can’t get involved in a service club, and be president at least once time. No, they have to go out and invent a useless group. Barker has to be in charge of something.
This reminds me of another odd religious-based story from earlier this week. David Shoshan of Israel has filed a ‘Restraining Order Against God’, and says God should stop answering his prayers. He wants to ‘ban God’ from interfering in his life. I am NOT making this up.
Comforting in a way to know that America doesn’t have a lock on craziness.

The judge told him not to seek help from the Court, but psychiatric experts - case dismissed - Go Judge!
So sue. I can tell you the only thing worse in God’s eyes than an atheist is someone who renounced their Christianity to get there. Bad days coming for you Mr Barker.
For someone who doesn’t like God, they sure are afraid of Him.
I’d love to get my hands around the throat of one of these bass turds in a ladies room at Target.
Why are atheists such a bunch of JERKS!!?
Those whom God would destroy he first makes mad.
